If you devour dark urban fantasy like a vampire slurps down a blood meal, you’ll love Faith Hunter’s Jane Yellowrock series.
Jane is a vampire hunter for hire with the coolest motto I’ve ever heard: “Have stakes, will travel.” Jane is one of the more unusual characters in urban fantasy right now and each book in the series is multilayered and exciting. Don’t believe me? Check out this list.
I went to see Dark Shadows this weekend. With one reservation (I’ll get to that later), I enjoyed it. If you appreciate a twisty sense of humor, have a healthy ability to suspend disbelief, love Tim Burton or Johnny Depp, you will probably like this movie.

All of a sudden, the end of summer loomed and I still had projects around the house, back-to-school shopping, a quick trip, and writing to squeeze in. I’m still trying to catch my breath.
But I’m so happy to get back to my normal schedule.
I have a confession to make.
My writing has come to a screeching halt and I feel like I’m balanced on the edge of a chasm, windmilling my arms, trying not to fall into the abyss.
I was looking for a fantasy novel that included gods as characters and happened upon N.K. Jemisin’s The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms. As someone who is always on the hunt for something different in the fantasy genre, I found this an intriguing novel that I thoroughly enjoyed.
No, sorry, this isn’t about the Beatles. It describes my writing week.
I had two fantastic writing days and the rest were so-so. It was those two days, though, that made it possible for me to get 4300 words this week and kept me motivated.

I’m late writing about this. Everyone probably already knows Borders is closing, right? And while anyone who’s been paying attention the last couple of years probably isn’t shocked, it’s disappointing nonetheless.
What a long, hot couple of weeks this has been! All I can say is thank you, thank you, thank you, to whoever invented air conditioning.

Writing has been slow-going this week. The problems discovered last week meant I needed to focus on plot planning and doing a bit of worldbuilding and even ended up creating a new character…
However, by the end of the week, I surprised myself and got 309 words. To which I say “hallelujah!” And then collapse from heat exhaustion.
